Air conditioner maintenance is a task we urge Sydney to do. It isn’t only to ensure cleaner air, but also to reduce your electricity bill by keeping efficiency levels up to standard. Regular air conditioner maintenance is vital for keeping energy bills in check. A well-maintained air conditioner operates more efficiently, which means it consumes less power to maintain a comfortable temperature. Dirty filters, clogged ducts and other common issues can cause your AC to work harder than necessary, leading to increased energy consumption and higher bills. By ensuring your AC is in top condition, you not only enhance its efficiency but also contribute to significant savings on your energy expenses, and enhance the long term durability of your investment.

Air Conditioner Filters

Just like the reverse osmosis system filters for your water, your air conditioner filters the air you breathe. The most important maintenance task that will ensure the efficiency of your air conditioner is to routinely replace or clean its filters. Clogged, dirty filters reduce the amount of airflow and significantly reduce a system's efficiency. In addition, when airflow is obstructed, air can bypass the filter and deposit dirt directly into the evaporator coil and impair the coil's heat-absorbing capacity. Replacing a dirty, clogged filter with a clean one can lower your air conditioner's energy consumption by anywhere between 5% to 15%.

Some types of filters are reusable; others must be replaced. They are available in a variety of types and efficiencies. Clean or replace your air conditioning system's filter or filters every month or two during the cooling season. Filters may need more frequent attention if the air conditioner is in constant use, is subjected to dusty conditions, or you have fur-bearing pets in the house.

Coil Fins

The aluminium fins on evaporator and condenser coils are easily bent and can block airflow through the coil. A fin comb is used to maintain the fin straightness for airflow and efficiency.

Condensate Drains

Using a stiff wire, pass through the unit's drain channels. A clogged drain channel can prevent a unit from reducing humidity, and the resulting excess moisture may discolour walls or carpet.

These are some of the basic maintenance work that can be done to increase the lifespan of your air conditioner system.

Air Conditioner Coils

The air conditioner's evaporator coil and condenser coil collect dirt over their months and years of service. A clean filter prevents the evaporator coil from soiling quickly. In time, however, the evaporator coil will still collect dirt. This dirt reduces airflow and insulates the coil, reducing its ability to absorb heat. To avoid this problem, we recommend a regular maintenance call every year to keep it as clean as possible. Giving you more life and usability out of your unit.

Outdoor condenser coils can also become very dirty if the outdoor environment is dusty or if there is foliage nearby. You can easily see the condenser coil and notice if dirt is collecting on its fins.

You should minimise dirt and debris near the condenser unit. Your dryer vents, falling leaves, and lawn mower are all potential sources of dirt and debris. Cleaning the area around the coil, removing any debris, and trimming foliage back at least 0.6 meters allow for adequate airflow around the condenser.
